Ordonez's Broken Ankle Sinks Tigers' Chances

If Tigers general manger Dave Dombrowski still was unsure about whether to mortgage the future for a chance to win the division this season, he's probably not on the fence anymore.

On a play that started so promising -- another of Miguel Cabrera's crowd-pleasing swats, this one a double up the right-center field gap that looked like it might tie Saturday night's game -- the Tigers season might've, effectively, come to an end. And painfully.

Magglio Ordonez, who'd been nursing a sore right ankle for several days before third base coach Gene Lamont waved him home in the third inning, was thrown out of the plate and, worse yet, thrown out for 6-8 weeks.

A fractured ankle has robbed the Tigers' offense of their No. 3 hitter, at a very inopportune time.
