JaMarcus Russell used to dominate here. And by "here," I mean the patch of shaggy grass beneath my feet.
I am standing on a football practice field at Williamson High School. It is located on the southwest side of this sports-loving city that once embraced Russell as a quarterbacking hero and collectively wonders what went wrong.
In the Bay Area, there's a large chapter of the same club.
Russell, who went on from Williamson High to star at Louisiana State, was chosen by the Raiders as the top selection of the 2007 draft. But following three seasons of almost laughable failure in Oakland, he was cut by the team in May.
