Nobody has ever done this before: 113,411 people crammed into a football stadium for a hockey game. But more to the point, who else could do this? Where else would this many people sit outside for 3 hours to watch a niche sport like college hockey? Who else would even try something like this?
This is what makes Michigan such a special place to be a sports fan: If you give the people an event like this, they will pile into their cars, park wherever they can, trudge through the mud and sit out in the cold — and love it.
