Not Even Griffin Can Rescue Dunk Contest

On the eve of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend, it is widely assumed the presence of Clippers rookie Blake Griffin will somehow save this year’s dunking contest.

Or should I say, the Sprite Slam Dunk contest?

Like so much of NBA culture, what came off the streets of poor, mostly black neighborhoods has become an exercise in corporate-sponsored narcissism.

Griffin will not save it. He can’t.
