10 Lessons from the Rise and Fall of FanHouse

As longtime readers know, I've been a writer at AOL Sports' FanHouse since its beginning in 2006. Yesterday was the site's last functioning day. FanHouse is dead, but sorta kinda not. Basically, AOL is licensing out the name to Sporting News, and then SN is taking over the content.

Now if you read that last link, the transaction doesn't seem to make a ton of sense. SN is keeping just a few of the writers. They are not keeping the website format. There were rumors that another web company was interested in buying FanHouse and keeping much of the staff but AOL did not accept that offer.
