McKeon's 1st Crisis: Handle Ramirez

Know this about Jack McKeon: Even at 80 years old and more than five seasons since he last managed in the big leagues, he doesn't walk on tiptoes. He re-established that with his first lineup.

Named interim manager to replace Edwin Rodriguez, who to the organization's surprise resigned on Sunday, McKeon left slumping shortstop Hanley Ramirez off Monday's starting nine against the Angels.

"I saw him running [Sunday] and I didn't think he was running that good," said McKeon, about the Ramirez omission.

McKeon did not say whether he thought the issue was a lack of effort or physical in nature. Ramirez came off the disabled list last week after suffering a back strain.
