For the moment, the Cal players were in no mood to acknowledge everything they had accomplished.
Early in the season, they had withstood a state of chaos and shock that few college baseball teams have experienced, the apparent end to their program. More recently, they had rallied to win four elimination games in a regional.
And finally, they had made it to the College World Series and achieved Cal's highest national finish - tied for fifth - since 1980, when the Bears took third.
For the moment, all they could feel was disappointment that it was over. They were ushered out of Omaha on Thursday night by Virginia right-hander Tyler Wilson. They couldn't keep from popping up his pitches and were thumped 8-1 by the relentless Cavaliers (56-11).
