He's Back: White Wins X Games Gold

Shaun White admittedly doesn't handle defeats or setbacks well.

Not only was last season's heartbreaking silver-medal finish in the X Games vert final to buddy Pierre-Luc Gagnon weighing on him, White also had the added frustration of last week's third-place finish to Bucky Lasek and Gagnon at the opening Dew Tour stop.

"It was agony this week," White said. "I never felt like I even left the event because we went straight into X Games. Pierre even caught me looking at my cheat sheet of tricks, so to speak."

Standing on top of the ramp before his final run and once again looking up at three-time defending champion Gagnon, White experienced an epiphany.

It was something his brother Jesse had told him earlier in the day: stop thinking and do what White used to do.

His mind cleared, and White connected one high-flying move with another on his final run, punctuating it with a body varial 540 that brought the Nokia Theater crowd to its feet Saturday night to seal just his second X Games skateboarding gold medal in eight appearances.
