It is good he is not retiring immediately and that there will be one more year and one final farewell tour for Howard Schnellenberger.
The legendary 77-year-old coach of Florida Atlantic deserves all the accolades and adulation we can heap upon him after his announcement Thursday that he will retire following the upcoming season. Everybody from Pahokee to the Panhandle who is a college football fan in this state should send Howard Schnellenberger a thank-you card. And I'm not just talking about Miami Hurricanes fans. I'm talking about Florida Gators fans and Florida State Seminoles fans, too.
