South Carolina Left in a Mess

The saga has ended in the most predictable fashion imaginable. Stephen Garcia, the talented and perpetually troubled fifth-year senior quarterback for South Carolina has finally and permanently been dismissed from the team.

The announcement came after one of the most bizarre non-news conference news conferences in Steve Spurrier’s long coaching career. His voice quivering with barely suppressed rage, the Ol' Ball Coach refused to sit for his weekly Q&A because of the presence of a columnist from The State newspaper whom Spurrier claimed was “trying to hurt our football program.” He also said that in 26 years of coaching he had only had to disassociate with two writers, the other being Larry Guest, a retired columnist for the Orlando Sentinel.
