And in a first inning Tuesday night that could have sent a portentous early message to the wounded Tigers, Michael Young, captain of the Texas Rangers, instead bounced into a rally-sapping 6-4-3 double play.

Certainly, Doug Fister's seven-plus-innings mastery of the Rangers was the story as the Detroit Tigers won 5-2 to take Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.

But a festering subplot continues to develop for the Rangers.
