Cards Take Series Lead in Rout

A bullpen that cost them so many wins early in the season has put the Cardinals one win away from the National League pennant.

Pressed into early duty for the fifth consecutive game, the Cardinals relief corps delivered as the lineup provided for a 7-1 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday at Busch Stadium. The victory gives the Cardinals a 3-2 edge in the best-of-seven National League championship series.

The series now shifts to Miller Park where the Cardinals will have two chances to win one game and a berth in the 2011 World Series.

Edwin Jackson is scheduled to pitch Game 6 on Sunday, with Chris Carpenter waiting for a decisive Game 7, if necessary.
