Crane Rallies to Prevail in Playoff

When two relative PGA Tour novices shot themselves out of the tournament, the veterans took over Sunday in the final round of the McGladrey Classic.

Four major champions and 10 Tour winners were in the mix at one time or another on another day of perfect weather on the Golden Isles. And in no surprise, the issue had to be settled in extra holes as Ben Crane captured his fourth PGA Tour title by defeating newly minted money leader Webb Simpson on the second hole of sudden death at the Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course.

Simpson three-putted the par-3 17th hole from 35 feet, missing his second putt from 3 feet, 5 inches when it hit an old ball mark that Simpson thought he had repaired well enough. Crane, in the meantime, two-putted from 21 feet, ending a day in which he sprinted up the leaderboard after trailing by six shots after nine holes.
