Rangers' Success Starts at Top

Let’s start with the fact that Jon Daniels might be baseball’s best general manager. At the very least, he’s right there in the conversation with Andrew Friedman, Kevin Towers and a few others.

That’s where any discussion of the Texas Rangers and their back-to-back American League championships begins. Then again, so many things go into the making of a championship team that focusing on just one is silly.

For instance, there’s Rangers president Nolan Ryan. He brought leadership and credibility to a franchise that had none.

He also brought pitching coach Mike Maddux and bench coach Jackie Moore with him from Round Rock and hired an assortment of executives who are among the best in the business.
