As the St. Louis Cardinals arrived deep in the heart of Texas on Friday afternoon lugging their bruised competitive psyches and anemic offense around like so much dead weight, it didn't take long before they treated this light off-day World Series workout in Rangers Ballpark like a good ol' baseball revival meeting.
Nothing revives a downtrodden October offense quite like a little batting practice in an aerodynamic launching pad, where the sound of maple and ash simply crushing baseballs into every corner of this batter-friendly ballpark is one of baseball's sweetest sounds.
The 2011 World Series has shifted here for the next three games, and the quiet Cardinals bats had something of an awakening in BP on Friday afternoon, with little guys and big boppers all taking turns jacking ropes and rockets deep, all to the loud hoots and hollers of roaring teammates.
