Cardinals Self-Destruct in Defeat

The deeper things traveled into this warm Texas night, the more the vibe in Rangers Ballpark kept changing. The night began with 51,459 Texas Rangers fans feeling like nervous wrecks. They could sense that 2011 World Series was about to slip away, that the St. Louis Cardinals were about to slip out of town with a firm grasp on this Series.

But by the seventh inning of this self-destructive 4-2 Cardinals loss, the big ballpark was bouncing with the sound of loud country music, crackling Ranger bats and lifeless Redbird bats. And while all these crazed Texans were having a party as they watched all these Cardinals batters march to home plate as if they were walking off a gangplank, there were millions of exasperated loyalists in Cardinals Nation sitting at home who couldn't believe their eyes.
