Fans Flock to Paterno Statue

Car after car stopped outside Beaver Stadium on Saturday, as people hopped out and snapped pictures of friends or family.

The bronze statue of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno proved to be therapeutic for countless visitors still coming to terms that the winningest coach in Division I history not only has been fired but also is battling lung cancer.

"I was in bed, had the news on TV and my husband came in and asked, 'Did you hear about JoePa?'" said Kim D'Addario, 45, of New Berlin.

The D'Addarios -- Kim, husband Pete and daughter Megan -- are neither Penn State alumni nor students, but they trekked to the campus to score a picture of the family next to the Paterno statue.
