And how refreshing is it to say without having to add the obligatory qualifier - even with the Clippers sharing the city with the Lakers?
For the first time, these teams are on equal ground.
Maybe not in the hearts of all L.A. basketball fans - this is still a Lakers town through and through - but on the court the Lakers and Clippers are in a dead heat.
And judging by the way the Clippers kept the Lakers at arm's length throughout their 102-94 victory over them Saturday, they might be slightly ahead.
It was the first matchup of the season between these two Tinseltown powerhouses and it not only lived up to the hype, it likely provided...
