Too Many Coaches Behaving Badly

Some years back, the National Association of Basketball Coaches started a movement to have its membership referred to as teacher-coach. You know, like student-athlete.

The Minutes isn’t sure how many actual faculty members – generally employed at a fraction of the salary of the teacher-coaches – threw up in their mouths at that suggestion, but the number was presumed to be large.

The suggestion was a tad presumptuous.

The number of young college basketball players who have learned lessons beyond defending the pick-and-roll from their college coaches is not small and should not be overlooked. But some also have seen a notable lack of grace under sideline pressure from berserk adults – quite a bit of it displayed recently.
