Wings Win 17th Straight at Home

The Red Wings won their 17th straight home game Monday night, and the amazing part is ... wait, that is the amazing part. Twenty-six NHL teams have not won 17 home games all season. The Wings' streak is the longest in the league in 36 years. That is a long, statistically supported way of saying that winning 17 straight home games is really hard.

There are more amazing parts. The Wings beat St. Louis, one of the hottest teams in the league, 3-1, despite taking the first period off. They fell behind, 1-0, and looked listless, and then, late in the first period, the Blues' Chris Stewart and the Wings' Brad Stuart exchanged blows over how to spell their names. Actually, Stewart took exception to a hit from Stuart and started a fight.
