Illinois coach Bruce Weber preached about toughness down the stretch after the Illini let their last few games slip away.
The Illini held onto this one, upsetting No. 9 Michigan State 42-41 on Tuesday night at Assembly Hall.
Even as time ran out it wasn't clear the Illini had actually done it. The buzzer sounded after Keith Appling missed a shot and Illinois center Leonard tipped the ball out but officials reviewed the play and called it game over.
