Bound for a round of family hugs and gleeful incredulity after his team shot No. 15 Marquette to tatters in a 76-59 win Saturday, Notre Dame freshman Pat Connaughton first paused to sign a green shirt for a beaming young fan.

From behind some chairs, the boy's mother looked on, sporting her blue Marquette gear. Connaughton, who riddled the visitors with 23 points and five 3-pointers, looked up to fire off one more dagger. He pointed the black marker at the woman.

"You want me to sign your shirt?" Connaughton asked.
