FA Wrong to Meddle in Terry Affair

John Terry, who is almost as adept at dodging controversy as England is at winning the World Cup, has been stripped of his captaincy of the English national team for racially abusive language. But this is no excuse for the Football Association to overstep the boundaries of its authority.

Terry allegedly called Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand a “f------ black c---.” The Chelsea defender’s reputation would have sunk further had it not already been rock bottom.

The Football Association, English soccer’s governing body, has stepped in as if it fears that Terry’s actions with Chelsea could rebound on the national team’s reputation. On Friday, the FA board released a statement announcing the surprising decision.
