It probably was inevitable, though a good deal premature, that someone would ask Kentucky center Anthony Davis about his impending decision regarding the NBA draft with this NCAA championship barely a half-hour old. He gave an intriguing answer, though.
He said, “We have until April 29 to decide.”
That is the NBA’s deadline for college underclassmen to enter the draft. It is not the ridiculous deadline the NCAA has imposed, after which any player who files for the draft will not be permitted to return to the college game.
The disparity is explained thusly: UK coach John Calipari won’t force his players to decide by the April 10 NCAA deadline. He’ll allow them the luxury and comfort of the extra time.
