With his contract up at the end of the season and his 40th birthday looming next month, Martin Brodeur knows that sooner rather than later, he will no longer be the face of the Devils’ franchise.
More than any other player, Brodeur built the Devils from being derided as a “Mickey Mouse franchise,” to a three-time Stanely Cup winner. Proud to have only wore a Devils jersey Brodeur is happy to let go of the responsibility, just a little bit, and enjoy what could be his last run.
“It could be my last playoff,” said Brodeur, who has been non-comittal about his future. “I want to go out and really enjoy it as much as I can."
