Giants' Bullpen Must Step Up

One game. That's how long the Giants were able to field a healthy, complete roster in front of their home fans. Game 2 at AT&T Park brought a crushing bit of news Saturday night, the likelihood that ace reliever Brian Wilson will be lost for the season due to elbow damage.

In light of what happened last year - losing Buster Posey in late May and never really recovering - it seems downright cruel.

There's a difference this time. If the Giants manage to stay in contention throughout the season, it will be because general manager Brian Sabean prepared for the worst over the winter. He made sure the Giants retained one of the deepest bullpens in baseball, and that could prove to be crucial as manager Bruce Bochy tries to offset a massive setback.
