Dominance Is Good for Sports

The Miami Heat beat the New York Knicks Sunday, and it was a happening. Or at least a happening-ish. The game was on national TV. New parents Jay-Z and Beyoncé sipped beers court side. Boyz II Men sang The Star-Spangled Banner. But it was one of those knockout, 75-degree spring days in Manhattan, when a moment trapped indoors felt almost criminal, and though there were loud moments, Madison Square Garden didn't shudder like the center of the universe.

Of course, a Heat game no longer feels so compulsory. Last season, Miami on the road was a furious circus come to town, and while that ad hominem hate parade grew wearisome, everybody wanted to experience it for themselves. This year's team does not pack the same thrill. The Heat are certainly good—after a 93-85...
