The Rangers were not supposed to be hearing boos at Madison Square Garden this spring. But that was how their fans sent them off Saturday night after a 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators put the Rangers, the top-seeded team in the Eastern Conference, on the brink of elimination in the first round of the playoffs.
Now trailing, three games to two, the Rangers must travel to Ottawa for Game 6 on Monday night.
“We’re confident that in the next game, we’ll have a better chance of winning,” said Brad Richards, who took a game-high seven shots. But like the rest of the Rangers, Richards failed to solve Senators goalie Craig Anderson, who is emerging as the surprise star of the series.
“We’re going to have to win this in seven,” Richards said. “That’s the reality.”
