After a sluggish first period in which they looked rusty from a long layoff, the Flyers regrouped and defeated the New Jersey Devils in overtime, 4-3, at the reverberating Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.
Danny Briere scored on a long drive 4:36 into overtime as James van Riemsdyk set up a screen in front, ending the dramatic opener of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Chants of "Dan-ny, Dan-ny" echoed around the arena after Briere's 26th goal in his last 41 playoff games and fourth career playoff goal in OT.
