Suspended Young Must Make Amends

Delmon Young had to be suspended, and he was. And whether that ends this sordid tale is up to Young, and how he responds.

He already has expressed remorse for his drunken altercation in New York. If all the ugly allegations are true — Young and the Tigers dispute that — he has more repair work ahead. GM Dave Dombrowski said rules prevent punishment beyond the seven-day suspension by Major League Baseball. The Tigers still could release him, but don't seem inclined to do so. I wouldn't, not now.

First, the discipline isn't light for someone not yet convicted — it will cost him about $250,000. And frankly, they probably need him. But they should require Young to deliver a public, spoken apology to defuse emotions, and must closely monitor his ...
