Sometimes, as the saying goes, it's better to be lucky than good. And last season's New Orleans Hornets were anything but good. In fact, they were awful. The motley bunch constructed losing streaks of six, eight and nine games, which is pretty tough to do in a 66-game season. At one point, they were a sorry 4-23. Only three times all season did they manage to win more than one game in a row. All of this added up to a forgettable 21-45 record, last in the Western Conference.
But the Hornets' luck began to change the night of May 30 at the NBA's annual draft lottery shindig. As bad as the Hornets were, three teams in the woeful Eastern Conference were worse.
