Newcastle's Bid for Carroll Rejected

Andy Carroll's future at Anfield is increasingly uncertain after Liverpool rejected a bid by his former club Newcastle United to take back the England striker on loan.

Newcastle confirmed that they had made an offer for Carroll to go back to the north-east, initially for a temporary spell. That has been turned down but Liverpool's new manager, Brendan Rodgers, would entertain offers for a permanent transfer of their £35m British record signing, who moved to Anfield in January 2011.
