Blazers Turn to Stotts for Offensive Innovation

After an era of methodical and sometimes predictable offense, the Trail Blazers have turned to a noted offensive mind, hiring Terry Stotts on Tuesday to become the franchise's 14th head coach.

 
Stotts, 54, has been the lead assistant for the Dallas Mavericks since 2008, and head coach Rick Carlisle credited Stotts' offensive innovation in helping the Mavericks win the 2011 NBA title. Early in his coaching career, Stotts' offense didn't translate to wins -- he struggled during head coaching stints in Atlanta (2002-2004) and Milwaukee (2005-2007) -- but some say that was more indicative of the talent than his coaching.
