The loss of inside linebacker Pat Angerer to a foot fracture doesn’t mean the Indianapolis Colts will turn to former captain and fan favorite Gary Brackett.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Monday Angerer will need surgery after getting hurt in Sunday’s preseason opener. The estimated recovery timetable on the 2011 team tackles leader is six weeks.
Asked about Brackett, a Colts mainstay for nine years until his release in March, Pagano implied the team would prefer a player the new coaching staff knows has experience in a 3-4 scheme.
“I would just go ahead and say that he wouldn’t be a guy just because of familiarity, obviously,” Pagano said.
