Messi Scores Twice as Barca Rolls

The Tito Vilanova era at Barcelona began with help from a familiar face, as Lionel Messi led the Blaugrana to a 5-1 win over Real Sociedad in its Primera Division season opener at Camp Nou on Sunday. Mexican international Carlos Vela played 25 minutes in the loss.

As Real Madrid stumbled to an early 1-1 draw against Valencia earlier, Vilanova picked up where predecessor Pep Guardiola left off, dominating the beleaguered visitor for large periods to clinch an emphatic home victory.
