Xavier Paul and Ryan Hanigan may not carry much juice in fantasy baseball, but the two Reds loomed large in the real world Sunday afternoon.
Pinch hitter Paul started the ninth inning with a triple, and Hanigan followed with a walk-off single to give the Reds a 5-4 win over the Cubs. A sellout crowd of 41,615 watched Reds players rush out to mob both Hanigan and Paul, as Cincinnati took the series 3-1.
Reds catcher Hanigan entered with only 13 RBI all year and none since Aug. 2, but he had two RBI Sunday.
Paul began the year as a non-roster invitee with the Nationals and was signed by the Reds in mid-July. Paul has hit .342 overall and .389 as a pinch hitter (7 for 18).
