Suspension of Chiefs' Hali a Surprise

It’s his words that make this so disappointing.

“A lot of pressure, still a lot of pressure,” he said earlier this month at Chiefs training camp. “I’ve got to come out here and perform and show leadership.”

It’s his actions that make this so surprising.

Tamba Hali is perhaps the Chiefs’ most dependable player, an outside linebacker who’s talented, focused and driven. Now he’s the face of preseason unease, after Monday’s news that the NFL has suspended Hali for the regular-season opener after he violated the league’s substance-abuse policy. He won’t practice or be allowed at the team facility during that week as the team prepares for the Atlanta Falcons, and he’ll also be docked an additional game check.
