Jeff Overton opened the Deutsche Bank Championship with a 7-under-par 64 and backed it with rounds of 71 and 69 but he was falling prey to anxious thoughts on the back nine of the final round Monday at TPC Boston. They ended dramatically. A 30-foot birdie putt toppled into the hole at No. 12.
It was relief. It was exultation.
"Boom Baby!" he shouted
Whatever else Overton is, he's a Hoosier first. He was born in Evansville, played golf for Indiana University, resides in Bloomington and will play in front of the home crowd this week in the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
