Future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera has told Yankees general manager Brian Cashman that he intends to return for the 2013 season, one of the first significant offseason issues facing the defending American League East champions.
Rivera, who suffered a torn ACL early this past season, will be 43 on Nov. 29. But he affirmed his initial sentiments that he did not want to leave baseball with the last image being one of him crumpled on a warning track in Kansas City. That was among the motivating factors in his decision to tell Cashman Friday that he'd be back next spring.
