A victory Sunday night in the Georgia Dome? A win over the last of the NFL’s unbeatens? That changes everything for the Cowboys’ 2012 season and, in particular, for head coach Jason Garrett.
Look around the NFC at the potential wild-card teams. Only the runner-up in the Chicago-Green Bay battle figures to be a 10-win team. So, for the Cowboys, the goal is to get to 4-4 at the midpoint, ride a little momentum into Philadelphia and at least your team is back in the discussion.
Given that this is the NFL, an upset is by no means out of the question. But what if the favored Falcons prevail and the Cowboys hit the midseason mark at 3-5, quite possibly alone in last place in the NFC East?
If that takes place, just how far removed would you say these Cowboys are from the team that got Wade Phillips fired and Garrett promoted at this exact stage two years ago?
