LOS ANGELES – When the votes are counted in December, UCLA's Johnathan Franklin won't win the 2012 Heisman Trophy.
That's OK. He didn't win Tuesday either, finishing behind Barack Obama, just another candidate who failed to gain enough support, like Mitt Romney, only with a more promising future.
But Franklin did receive votes to be the next president of these United States. Some of his friends added his name to their ballots as a write-in, snapped pictures and sent Franklin the evidence.
Think anyone voted for USC's Matt Barkley?
Times have changed around here and abruptly so. The rebuilding Bruins now even are ranked ahead of the Trojans, who were thought to be built to BCS standards.
This shift is in part because of a senior running back who just became the leading rusher in UCLA history and marked the occasion by officially reconfirming his hope to participate at the next level.
