Battle of Midway a Battle of Elements

The Battle on the Midway came down to a battle of the elements.

The 9th-ranked Syracuse Orange overcame blustering winds and blinding sun to hold off No. 20 San Diego State, 62-49, in the Battle on the Midway, which was held here on the flight deck of the USS Midway Museum on Sunday afternoon.

“This was a tough day,’’ Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. “This was a hard game. You had to get the basket.’’

Like the Orange, the magnitude of the event overcame the elements as well.
