Even though Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel has pushed himself into Heisman Trophy consideration, at least one observer thinks Johnny Football is not even the best redshirt freshman quarterback in the country.
That would be Marcus Mariota, according to Ferd Lewis, an undoubtedly biased columnist from Mariota's hometown of Honolulu.
"Can somebody, please, hurry up and get University of Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota a nickname?" Lewis pleaded.
On Saturday in Eugene, No. 14 Stanford (8-2, 6-1 Pac-12) will try to contain Mariota, the triggerman of the No. 1 Ducks (10-0, 7-0). He has passed for 28 touchdowns, completed 72 percent of his passes and thrown just five interceptions.
