Quietly, on his off day, Victor Cruz made a difficult 90-minute trip to Newtown, Conn. Tuesday along with his longtime girlfriend Elaina and their 11-month-old daughter Kennedy. He said he didn't know what to expect from the visit to see the family of 6-year-old Jack Pinto, one of the 27 victims in last Friday's mass shooting that has left the town grieving.
Cruz was Jack's favorite player, and the boy was laid to rest in a No. 80 jersey.
"You don’t know whether to say ‘thank you,’ whether to say you appreciate it," Cruz said. "It leaves you kind of blank. But I’m definitely honored by it. I’m definitely humbled by it."
