The 45-year-old driver has not won a race in more than four years. He has finishes of 20th and 19th in the standings his last two seasons after a five-year stretch when he made the Chase for the Sprint Cup four times.
He knows he has to do something about that. Or the talk will continue and the pressure will continue to mount.
“I want to race Jimmie Johnson for the championship. … I want that pressure,” Burton said Friday prior to testing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “That’s why I do it. The other pressure sucks. It’s not fun.”
Burton no doubt is feeling some of the pressure.
