Just based on the yet-to-be-revealed dead girlfriend hoax engulfing him, Manti Te'o couldn't have been crystal-clear mentally entering the BCS title game on Jan. 7.
Whether that affected Notre Dame's star linebacker during a dismal performance in a dismal loss to Alabama, Brian Kelly was not ready to make that leap Tuesday.
"Hindsight is 20/20," Kelly said on a conference call with reporters. "I didn’t think going into the game that he was affected by it, but he didn’t play his best. Alabama had something to do with that as well, clearly. I really don’t know."
