Another Feel-Good Story Gone Bad

We thought we knew Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee from South Africa who, despite his disability, put on carbon-fiber blades and ran not just in last summer's Paralympic Games, but also, historically, in the 2012 London Olympic Games.


He had the cool nickname: "Blade Runner." Other names and descriptions followed him to London: he was called an inspiration, a role model, a hero.


Never did we think we would hear the South African police call him a murderer.


But, on Thursday, police in Pretoria said they would charge Pistorius, 26, with murder after his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, a model and reality TV show contestant, was shot and killed at his home.
