Oregon State Tries to Move Forward From Scandal

Practice day at the College World Series began Friday as it usually does for the participating teams. In the morning, Oregon State's players, who were set to play in the first game on Saturday, ambled off the team bus toward the Road to Omaha sculpture in front of TD Ameritrade Park. After posing for goofy selfies and group photos beside the bronze image of four celebrating players, they headed inside for a light session of batting and fielding.

As the Beavers took ground balls and swings under a brilliant blue sky, finishing early enough to beat the 90-degree heat that is typical this time of year, Coach Pat Casey walked slowly around the field like an ambassador, greeting orange-clad boosters near the batting cage and in the stands as he prepared for his fifth C.W.S.
