R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Dec. 21, 8:00pm
New Orleans, LA
Teams: Florida Atlantic Owls (7-5) vs. Memphis Tigers (7-5)
Betting Line: FAU favored by 2
Brief History: This is another relatively new bowl, having just begun in 2001. Its a match-up between a team from Conference USA and the champion of the Sun Belt Conference. This is the second appearance for Memphis in this bowl game.
Fun Fact: In 2005, it was named the New Orleans Bowl at Lafayette, as the game was held at Cajun Field, on the campus of University of Louisiana at Lafayette, because of damage to the Louisiana Superdome from Hurricane Katrina.
Notable Schwag for the Players: Balfour ring, Balfour watch and Nike sunglasses.
Preview: I know, I know - not the most alluring match-up in the world. I mean, when you think of "football" and "tradition," you probably don't immediately jump to the famed and storied program of Florida Atlantic...and its six years of existence. But how can you not root for them? Tonight will mark the Owls' first ever post season appearance - pretty impressive considering they've only played 47 games. Ever. Sure, Memphis is a nice story, too (rebounding from a 2-10 season last year). But one look at Howard Schnellenberger and you're immediately FAU's number one fan. Oh Howard, you devil, you.
