NFL Rookie Watch: Week 14

by Robbie Gillies

Calvin Johnson (Lions) - With Roy Williams out, and the playoffs seemingly out of reach, the Lions should target Johnson and challenge him to step into the number one roll. Against the Cowboys, Johnson had 5 catches for 51 yards. I think it's time to let him loose.

Ted Ginn Jr (Dolphins)
- He had 4 catches for 67 yards, which ties his season high for catches and sets it for receiving yards. Unfortunately, the Dolphins drafted him to return kicks and after the Bills 3 & out, Ginn muffed the punt and turned it right back over to the Bills. Looks like the Dolphins will have the first pick in the draft next year in order to baffle people with another ridiculously bad selection.

Marshawn Lynch (Bills)
- After missing three straight games, Lynch came back with one of his best games of the season. He had 23 carries for 107 yards, but there should be an asterisk by his stats...he was playing against the Dolphins.

Anothony Gonzalez (Colts)
- Gonzalez led the Colts with 6 receptions for 134 and 2 TD's on their way to destroying the Ravens. This is what the Colts have been waiting for. With Marvin Harrison out, Gonzalez had to step up and it looks like he and Manning are finally in a bit of a groove. With Wayne getting double-teamed all day, Gonzalez is usually one-on-one with the corners and with any separation, Manning will hit him as he did Sunday night.

Trent Edwards (Bills) - All Edwards does is win games. He's now 5-1 as a starter and had his best game of the season on Sunday. He finished 11/23 for 165 yards and 4 TD's. The Bills haven't had a QB throw four touchdowns since Drew Bledsoe in 2004. Nothing like the Dolphins to boost your unrealistic hopes of the playoffs.

Darius Walker (Texans) - With Ahman Green getting injured, Walker got to play in his first game of the season. Walker had 81 total yards and the Texans kept their playoff hopes alive beating the Bucs 28-14.

Steve Breaston (Cardinals) - This is another guy who was primarily drafted to be a return man, but the past two weeks he has gotten his chance at wide receiver. Breaston had 4 catches for 52 yards. But, the Cards were doubled up by the Seahawks and are now on the outside looking in for the playoffs.

Selvin Young (Broncos) - Young set a season high with 156 rushing yards on just 17 carries. That's an average of 9.2 yards per carry. Looks like the Chiefs are looking for a high draft pick and looks like the Broncos found another RB they can substitute in.
